Understanding the National Minister

I love our national brothers and sisters. To be around them inspires me and gives me a fresh perspective regarding ministry. I am continually amazed at how much they can accomplish with so very little. Nationals are known to maximize every cent that is given to them.

In addition to this, it is difficult for a national minister to understand our country and our people. In many ways they see Americans as their only hope; believing that all Americans are very wealthy. The danger is
that they look more to man than to God  for their
needs. Asia International Mission is careful not to
                                                                                    foster an independence.

However, the challenge does exist. We continually receive letters from nationals needing assistance, and have been contacted for everything from computers, Bibles, church buildings, medical ministries, etc. In fact, a national can ask for thousands of dollars without blinking an eye. They don't realize that wealth is relative; that it takes much more to sustain us in our environment than in theirs.

Understanding their mindset, I am never offended when a national brother asks for money for a project. Our response is to point them back to God, and to help whenever possible. There are times that I wish AIM could do more in meeting the needs of national workers. Even in this, we trust that God will make a way.
