Be a Lion Tamer

According to I Peter 5:6-9, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…”

Without turning this article into a full blown Bible study, let me say a few words about our greatest adversary, the devil. He wants to play havoc with God’s children.

One of the most “devouring” things that can happen to a believer is “anxiety.” It will literally destroy one’s health. Please notice that the text suggest that we cast our anxiety upon Him. Why? Because many times the adversary plants seeds of doubt, worry, fear and discouragement into our lives. If not sober...if not casting...if not on the alert...we will find ourselves in the jaws of the lion—Satan. As a child of God the devil cannot have our soul, but he can disarm us and make us ineffective—he can discourage and torment us to the point of despair.

The very last verse gives a heavenly solution to a devilish problem—OUR HUMBLE FAITH. Simply, if we will humble ourselves and stand with our “Mighty God,” the frightening roar will not seem so alarming. You and I might be amazed that just by resisting the temptation to be anxious or fearful, and resting under the MIGHTY hand of God, we will discover a much needed surge of power and courage in our spiritual journey.

The Pumpkin

A lady, after recently being saved, was asked by a co-worker what it was like to be a Christian. She replied, “It's like being a pumpkin: God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off that you may have gotten from the other pumpkins. Then He cuts the top off and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He re-moves the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc., and then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for the entire world to see.”

Value Others More

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Phil. 2:3,4)

The value of someone or something determines its importance. For example, if something is highly valued by you it gets your attention. Maybe it's a hobby, TV, computer time, etc. Maybe it gets more attention than a needy child. It’s easier to get lost in leisure activities than to face the reality of a broken relationship. When we put a higher value on our relationships , we can be assured to keep them high priority in hard times.

"For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." (Romans 12:3)

Pride sometimes gets in our way… Pride places a lower priority on others and a higher priority on ourselves . Pride tells us that the needs and issues of others are much lower in value than our own needs and wants. It’s only from a humble heart that we are able to value others as Christ values them. When we place the needs of others above ourselves, with no regrets or complaining, God is glorified. I ask you now to take the time for a “relational audit." Ask yourself if your priorities, value, and pride are in check. Is God being glorified by your actions? Ask yourself how you can be of service for our Lord Jesus Christ. Humble yourself before the Father and ask where he will lead you and what He will have you do this year. The world is not our own, but His.

If you would like to help support the ministry of AIM to the hurting and lost of India go Here to donate now.
