What Will Catch Your Heart?

There are many things in life that will catch your eye; only a few will catch your heart. As Asia International Mission reaches out with Christ-like compassion to the lost and hurting people of India, it's hard to communicate the impoverished conditions we see so often.

In America we are so blessed, and have much to be thankful for. But the affluent culture we live in makes it difficult to understand the lives of those who have truly desperate physical and spiritual needs. We must never forget to be thankful to God for the bounty of food, comfortable homes, clean water, education, and the freedom to openly worship Christ.

Your generous giving to AIM is helping to alleviate suffering, and giving the lost an opportunity to hear the transforming message found only in the gospel of Jesus Christ. As mission-minded believers, our actions and words can have an enormous impact for eternity. Thank you!

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" (1 John 3:17-18)

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, and a
place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of the world's people.

If you woke up healthy this morning...you are more fortunate
than  the million who will not survive this week.

Convenient Christianity

It is evident to many people today that we live in a country perfectly happy with a "Convenient Christianity." Some of the Church is satisfied to be involved in the Lord's Great Commission as little as possible. Many Christians want only to attend a service, see their friends, and listen to a sermon that doesn't upset the status quo.

A few years ago, I read an article written by Elizabeth Elliot relating her passionate pursuit of Jesus, and the radical desire she and her husband had to fulfill the Great Commission. As they traveled--attempting to stir others with a passion to go to the nations--they talked of their passion to follow Jesus to the ends of the earth, and how it might even mean giving up their life for Christ.

There are many people today willing to travel overseas, either long or short term, with a commitment and passion to take back the world from satan, and win it for Christ. But at what price?

There will be some suffering, some loss, and a whole lot of passion. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians and said, "...I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord..."  (Philippians 3:8)
He was talking about his passionate pursuit of Jesus. Then later in verse 17 he said, "Join with others in following my example."

Will you follow his example? Are you willing to make Jesus your "passion"? The words of Jim Elliot still ring clearly the heart of passion, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

What will you give? You may think you can't afford very much, but you can't keep it forever anyway. So, why not give it to Jesus?

What Will Your Legacy Be?

In the book Broken Down House by Paul Tripp, he says, "A legacy isn't optional. It's impossible not to leave one. Everyday, every choice, every moment, you build your own legacy, little by little. This legacy is what you leave behind when you die, the inheritance you pass along to others...leaving a strong, God-glorifying spiritual legacy never happens by accident; it is never the path of least resistance. It is intentional and begins with understanding how a spiritual legacy can be formed."

His quotation is also true for the faithful prayer and financial supporters who have stood by Asia International mission. Each one of you have been a partner in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and hurting world. Our supporters add to their legacy every day through prayer and financial support for our ministries.

As you know, Jesus commanded believers to go into all the world to proclaim the gospel. Some have made the commitment to go, others participate in ways that are just as important in God's great plan...they are the supporters who help send those God has called to make the presentation in other lands.

We are grateful for each partner who supports the ministry of AIM. If you are not already supporting and partnering with AIM, we encourage you to consider what the Lord might have you do in these challenging times.

Add to your own "God--glorifying spiritual legacy" by being a missions--minded believer who takes seriously the mandate of Christ to "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." (Mark 16:15)

Endeavor to Persevere

During the days of the great California gold rush, two brothers decided to sell all they had and search for gold. In one small strip of land they discovered gold, so they bought all the surrounding land and built a mine to get as much of the gold as possible.

Soon, there was no more gold to be found. Discouraged, the brothers sold all the equipment and the rights to the land for a few hundred dollars. The new owner told his engineer to continue digging in the same spot where the brothers had first found gold. Sure enough, just a few feet deeper where the brothers had given up their search, they found more gold.

If only the brothers had persevered, and kept on digging, they would have been wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. In the Christian life, we too can grow discouraged and give up too quickly.

Think about this. William Carey worked and prayed for seven years in India before he baptized the first believer. Today, he is remembered as the "father of missions."  Adoniram Judson worked for seven years in Burma before he won his first soul for God.

I know how difficult it is to keep going when you don't always see results, but don't give up. Keep on doing what God has called you to do. Be encouraged by God's Word where it says, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9)

Don't give up like the gold miners in California who became discouraged by their lack of progress. Keep watering the ground where you planted God's seed, and at the proper time you too will reap a harvest if you persevere. There will be a harvest. There will be fruit, and growth in His time. The Almighty God has declared, "...my Word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire  and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11)
