What Are You Bringing Back?

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

You’re going on a mission trip? What do you do on a mission trip? Who has God brought together? What do you plan to bring back with you?

These are a lot of questions that are asked when an individual, or a church, plan a mission trip. But I have a few questions of my own to ask. Why are you going? What are you expecting from your mission trip? What do you want to see God do? What do you want Him to do, in, through, and around you? What are you bringing back with you? Are you asking for, seeking for, and knocking you for God things to take place.

The mission trips I remember most clearly are those where the group going was prayerfully prepared. They were praying before they went, invited others to join them in their prayers, and prayed during the trip. I encourage you to ask God to reveal Himself to you in ways you never have expected and to experience things you have never experienced.

Are you searching for Him during the trip? Do you want to find Him? Do you desire that those you minister to and with will find Him as well? Sure, the special souvenir that will remind you of your time is nice. But what about that changed heart? What about the person who has come to love the Lord and give his/herself to Him? Which is more important?

So what are you bringing back with you?

Dare to Do!

When we were children we would challenge each other to do some foolish thing, like jump off the roof of the front porch, with the saying “I double dare you.” Now as adults, I believe God is calling the church to attempt great things for Him.

So today, I would like to challenge you to dare to attempt something so great for the Kingdom of God that it is doomed to failure, unless Christ is in it!

-Try something so BIG, that you will fall flat on your face, unless God helps you and provides a way.

-Look for things that others would tell you are impossible. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

-God is looking for those who are willing to do His bidding. Lean on the power of God, and not that of your own while realizing that all things are possible with Him.

-Look for unique opportunities to serve God. Think "outside the box." (His ways are not our ways).

-Are you supposed to lead a mission trip? Are you supposed to lead a Bible Study for children, adults or seniors? Are you supposed to develop your own Ministry? If God leads you to it, He will lead you through it. Learn how to listen to God's prompting and His will for your life.

-God has a unique purpose for you. (Jeremiah 29:11) God did not create you to be just one of the crowd. God has great plans for you and your life, giving you a hope and a future. Developing an attitude of discovery and openness to Him is the best way to learn where you are to be most effectively used, given the unique talents and desires He alone gave to you.

-Don't be afraid to ask for the Favor of a King (Nehemiah did it though he risked death). One of the best ways to discover if the path you are on is God’s desire is whether He grants favor along the way. God will bless and enable plans that are in accordance with his bidding, but you have to ask for favor.

-Be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."  (Matthew 26:42)

It is normal, and ok, to be afraid, it is not ok to walk away. Jesus walked in our shoes and experienced everything we did, including fear. To face His fear, Jesus prayed, and after seeking God's will and strength followed with determination the path that had been planned for him.

A Place of Refuge

New Children's Home

“Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14)

It is by the grace of God that some children find a place of refuge in Christian Children’s Homes. They come from poverty stricken homes and off the streets. They have suffered cold and hunger, have been abused by parents addicted to alcoholic or drugs and have suffered many other indescribable abuses and indignities to horrible to list. They have now found safety and direction under the care of loving Christians.

Here they are given the opportunity for a new beginning. In our Children’s Home they receive loving care, wholesome meals, clothing and a warm bed. They are taught responsibility, respect for others, personal hygiene, they receive an education, and attend church.

Every day after the evening meal they have time for devotions where they are taught how to pray, sing and study scripture. The local pastor has the oversight of the Home we sponsor and all staff members are confessing Christians.

It is our hope and prayer that when these children are old enough to leave the Home, that they will be a positive influence in society and will share with others what they have been taught. It is only through the love of Christ who has inclined many hearts to help, that they have received a new beginning.

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
