Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a
doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance." (Luke 5:31-32)
There are many decisions to make every day. As we make them,
we are unconsciously basing those decisions on many factors. “What will benefit
me and my family?” “What does God want me to do?” But how often do we ask,
“Will this decision bring me in contact
with those in need?” That’s because the answer will often lead to uncomfortable
situations where we are confronted with great sin and even greater need.
Jesus was confronted by the church people of His day when He
was spotted at a home with some questionable people. Their sins were publicly
known by the community, and the onlookers wondered why Jesus would waste His
time with them. Jesus simply stated His priority to reach out to those in
greatest need.
As we consider the outreach opportunities in front of us,
this simple answer from Jesus is one way to decide how He might use His Voice
and Hands through us. Are we reaching those who truly need spiritual help? Are
we seeking the lost or are we simply serving those who are easy to be around?
How can you use your gifts for God’s glory?
