Quiet Time

Today, I want to look at something I believe is critical in our ministry to the world, and that is the importance of quiet time. Regular devotion time is crucial to being an effective witness for Christ. The quality and quantity of your time with the Lord is a good measure of your walk with the Him. Of course, we all have periods where we fall out of the habit. Fortunately we serve a God of second chances.

We have a great illustration of prioritizing time with the Lord though the story of Mary and Martha.  As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:38-42)

We are, too often, like Martha, with too much to do to spend time with the Lord. We are told in Matthew 6:6 to go to our inner room, close the door, and pray to our Father who is in secret. The Quiet Time is two-way communication between you and the Lord. And as you read your Bible, the Lord is speaking to you.

The two main purposes of our Quiet Time are:
1) To grow stronger in the Lord (1 Peter 2:2)
2) To defeat Satan (1 John 4:4)

If you haven’t begun having a Quiet Time, or you have lapsed, start today! Your family and friends will notice the difference.

Pray we will not be limited by our own human capacity, but will by faith trust Him for a great outpouring of His Spirit among the least reached. And, ask Him to give us a glorious, heaven-sent unity which will defy the powers of darkness and stand as a living witness to the power of the gospel in authentic, real-life relationships.
