I’m Not Called To Be A Missionary.

I want to introduce you to Matt Pouch currently residing as a missionary in Kijabe, Kenya . Matt has graciously allow us to reprint an article from his blog which I feel speaks to the truth of our "calling" as believers and members of God's family.

I’m not called to establish businesses in poverty stricken countries.

I’m not called to provide clean water to the thirsty and malnourished.

I’m not even called to be a missionary.

In fact the more I try to tell myself that this is my calling the more I worry if I can actually fulfill it. The more I desire to change the world physically or even spiritually the more frustrated I get.

  I’m just not called to be a missionary.

 The past two weeks I have spent a lot of alone time with the Father. He’s spent most of it taking away my heart for change and replacing it with a heart that longs to be with Him.

My true calling.

I’m called to an intimate relationship with the Father. I’m called to worship Him… every day. The actions that I do are an overflow of a heart that desires Him and hears His voice.

 That is where it starts. It’s also where it should end. With Him.

I choose to do this in Kenya. God confirmed it and said “Yes, Matthew. You may worship me there.” (Yes, God calls me Matthew)

 If we lived our lives out of a desire to love Him more, to long to be loved more, everything else falls into place. Whether I choose to be a bathroom attendant or a pastor, an attorney or a missionary, I’m called to be with Him.

My calling, your calling, isn’t a location. It’s not a job title. It’s what’s in you. It’s what’s in front of you.

Prayer Requests

Pray for Matt and all those around the world who have committed their lives to an intimate relationship with the Father, and following Him wherever He may lead.  

Pray for a spirit of unity among Christian groups, that they would be kingdom-minded and willing to share resources.

Incorporating Prayer in Your Fundraising

Time is growing short, and you still need to raise more funds for your summer mission trip. You’ve sent out letters, talked to your family and friends, and spoken at your church. But have you taken the most important step regarding your fundraising; bathing it in prayer.

If this is the Lord’s ministry, then it’s important that we confer with Him regarding our need for funds, and to praise him for the successes we experience. Let’s think through some of the many ways prayer needs to intersect with your fundraising.

As You Build Your Prospect List
Pray that the Lord will go before you, and preparing the hearts of your prospects as we set out to make the connection with those who may become part of your team.

As You Call to Set Up Appointments

You will find that praying, as you set out to make calls, will help alleviate your nervousness or fear as you seek help from the great provider.

As You Conduct the Visit
I love the story of Nehemiah. It must have taken great courage for Nehemiah to share his vision for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. Like Nehemiah, there will be numerous occasions when you will be plain scared when confronted with questions. Do like Nehemiah, stop and pray, right then and there.

As You Share in Public Meetings
Ask God to help you be discerning about when and where to make your presentation in public. You should pray before, during, and after these public presentations of your ministry, acknowledging that God is the one who will prompt listeners to become supporters of your work, and trust Him for the outcome.

As You Experience Disappointment
In a perfect world 100 percent of the people you call would not only give you an appointment but would also make a financial commitment. That is not a perfect world. At times of discouragement, return to prayer, asking for God’s continued direction.

As You Celebrate
Every time you conduct a successful donor appointment, every time you receive a positive response, every time you accept a generous gift, take the time to stop and pray and give God the glory.

As You Travel

Your fundraising will involve some travel, whether long distance or short. For some, travel means going thousands of miles by car and by air. So pray for safe passage.

As You Drop the Ball
There are going to be times when you find yourself regretting your own failures. Maybe you will fail to put in the effort in raising funds, or maybe you will neglect to thank your supporters. These times also call for prayer. Talk to your heavenly Father and confess your shortcomings.

Prayer is extremely vital, and needs to be part of the DNA of any fund raiser. May the Lord bless your efforts.
