Exciting New Ministry!

Large segments of India’s urban slum and rural tribal populations do not have access to safe and reliable healthcare. The following statistics indicate the severity of India’s situation: 

-Over 600,000 children die each yr due to pneumonia & diarrhea

-130,000 cases of leprosy diagnosed each year

-50% of world’s cases of leprosy found in India

-Only 38% of India's children below the age of 2 years are immunized.

-One in every 100 children in India between age group of 0-14 years suffers   

 from acute  respiratory infection.

-Almost one in every five children in India below the age of 14 suffers from diarrhea.

-58% of India's children below the age of 2 years are not fully vaccinated. And 24% of

  these children do not receive any form of vaccination.

 

Asia International Mission has prayerfully voted to begin a new medical ministry in Bangalore, India

to bring medical assistance to these under-resourced populations through a new medical clinic and an ongoing mobile medical ministry. Mobile vans are optimal delivery tools as they can reach all corners of a slum community and can travel the vast distances to support tribal villages.

By bringing healthcare to their doorstep, AIM wants to ensure that the greatest number of patients is served without hindering daily livelihood. The medical teams traveling on these vans will treat primary health conditions and dispense free medicines to care for both acute and chronic disease.

Patients, based on their lifestyle, history and current complaints, will be screened for parasitic infections, chronic diseases and asymptomatic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Regular de-worming medicines can be provided to patients with parasitic infections to prevent anemia, and nutritional supplements given to those that demonstrate severe malnourishment.

Prayer Request

Adivasi tribal Christians in the village of Tamsai--in the state of Orissa--gathered for a worship service at the Yehovah Nisih Prayer Church were attacked by a group of about 20 Hindu radicals who shouted, “there is no place for worship meetings in the village for Christians!”

Church member Bharat Patel said his left ear was injured, and that three other members suffered injuries, one of them a severe cut on the head. The hour-long assault ended when area Christian leaders intervened and took the victims to the police to report the incident.

Please pray that God would change the hearts of the Hindus extremists, safety for the congregation, and the healing of the injured people.

The Goal of Missions

One of the most overwhelming tasks placed on the shoulders of human beings is the taking of the gospel worldwide. It’s incredible to see how a few ordinary people, who have been with Jesus, take what they have experienced and share it with those who need to hear it.

Some people not only don’t care about the gospel, but often try to stop those who carry the Good News. And if hardened hearts darkened by sin is not enough of a barrier to understanding the gospel, add to that an almost infinite mixture of perspectives, attitudes, behaviors, and languages. This is the task God’s Son has left in the hands of His followers. What an awesome calling!

In Hebrews 12, believers are encouraged to run the race like those who have gone before. By faith, many have seen the power of God penetrate cultural barriers, enlighten hearts lost in darkness, and transform lives that are slaves to sin.

And this brings us to one of the basic reasons for the existence of Asia International Mission. To carry the gospel cross-culturally seems to be an overwhelming responsibility, yet AIM is there to encourage and enable local ministries called to this task to see in practical terms that Christ does have authority in heaven and earth, and His presence will continue until His task is done.

Vocational Calling

In my way of thinking it is a tragedy that members of the body of Christ are often thought of as being divided into two categories, those who are "called to the ministry" and those who "do secular work." When in reality, both groups are called by God, and every member of Christ's body is called to ministry.

Just because God calls only some of His children to vocational ministry does not mean that those whom He doesn't call to vocational ministry are any less called to do what they do. If you ask, for example, any pastor or evangelist how he knew that God was calling him when he began to pursue vocational ministry, as very small number of them will tell you about hearing God's audible voice or seeing a vision.

The majority will simply tell you that they "felt led," realizing that God gave them the desire and gifts to serve Him in some vocational ministry. It comes down to the fact that they were interested and felt qualified; the same criteria that most people use to determine their career.

God gifts people in different ways, and how He gifts them makes them more suited for some careers than others. And who can say that the gifting of the accountant, carpenter, homemaker, nurse or teacher is less of a gifting from God than the gifting of the pastor or evangelist?

Just imagine, if it weren't for all those so-called "secular" gifts (which are actually all sacred), it would be impossible for anyone to pursue a calling to vocational ministry for the simple reason that the large majority of vocational ministers are sustained by those who earn money in "secular" jobs. To put it plainly, if everyone were called to vocational ministry, everyone would be starving.

All of this is to say that all of Christ's followers should seek His will regarding their specific vocational calling. And regardless of what it is that God calls us to do, we should follow Paul's admonition that, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (Col. 3:23-24)

Those words were not written only to pastors and missionaries. All of us work for Jesus. So we should give Him our very best. When we do, there is a very good chance that we'll succeed in our vocation.

One of the very unique aspects of Asia International Mission is our 100% policy. When a designated gift comes in for a child or a project, one-hundred percent of those monies go toward that designation. Recently a person asked, “How do you support AIM?” The response was, “We are a lean machine!” AIM takes care of all postal fees for funds

Asia International Mission’s overhead is VERY minimal compared to other ministries. We are blessed with people who have consistently supported AIM with undesignated funds—this helps us with our administrative expenses. Though at times we are limited in what we can do, God always meets our essential needs. AIM’s Board is very grateful for the prayers and support received on a regular basis.
